Senate Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) issued the following statement Wednesday upon learning that a group of North Carolina students and families have sued to stop the U.S. Department of Justice from withholding federal education dollars from the state based on its radical argument that maintaining sex-specific restrooms in public schools violates federal law:

“I applaud these parents and students for rejecting the Obama administration’s radical argument that school-aged boys and girls ought to share the same bathrooms and locker rooms as a condition of receiving their federal education funding – and instead standing up for their right to basic privacy and safety in our schools.”

Students and families have filed a similar lawsuit in Illinois.
